Mechanical Properties

Note 1; During compaction water seeped from the mix. Interestingly cement paste did not flow from the compacting mix and it was assumed that cement solids were bound to the paper fibres.

Note 2; Less that an hour after placing it was possible to stand on the newly compacted papercrete.

Mechanical properties of his mix design (8 litres LIME, 16 litres CEMENT, 75 litres PAPER, water for workability Note; compact mix well!, no compaction, no strength) were;

The compressive and flexural strength of the papercrete at age of 28 days were found to be 5.56N/mm2 , 1.43 N/mm2 , respectively while the density of the papercrete was 650 kg/m3.

The thermal conductivity k, for papercrete was 0.85 W/(m.K)
